We are all a little crazy...

My family and friends have always known me as a runner. It has really defined who I am, but it was not until close to two years ago that I realized how big this would really become.

It started as something simple. A friend of mine challenged me to the Pittsburgh Marathon 5K. Simple enough. At this point, I am a recreational runner. Nothing crazy, few miles here and there. If I am going to do this though, I am going full out. It had been about six years since my last competitive 5K, and I'm training for a great time. Within the first week of training, I'm already under nine-minute miles on a treadmill. This gets me thinking, what else can I do?

Long story short, I place in the top 100 of the 5K, and second in my 20-24 age group with a 25:09. Exactly one year later, I crossed the same exact finish line, but this time, it was completing the Pittsburgh Marathon.

Within a calendar year, I completed a 1 mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. After all of this, you can only start to think what else you can accomplish, right?

Within the next nine months or so I will be competing in some very interesting races.

The first is coming up in early August, which is the Liberty Mile. It is a Friday night, one mile race down a major road in and out of downtown Pittsburgh. Last year I placed third in my age group in the "One for Fun" race in a time of 6:30, which I correctly predicted I would run. This year, I'm hoping to feel a little better about a one mile race and maybe correctly learn how to run one.

The next race is in October in Bethlehem, Pa. I will be competing in the Runners World Half Weekend. I chose to compete in the "Hat Trick." This race is not for the light hearted. The first say will consist of a 5K and a 10K. The next day will be a half marathon. My plan is to run each race with a few friends, but have the 10K be my focus.

The craziest of my races is the Goofy Marathon in Disney in January, 2014. I am looking forward to this the most because my husband will be running the half marathon with me. I am also looking to dress up like a character for it, not sure which one yet. I am also excited for Disney because it will be my next attempt at a full marathon. When I ran my first I had a injured foot, and I really want to redeem myself.

The plan right now is to round out the craziness with the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in May, 2014. Registration is in late October, and I am still fighting with the idea of running two full marathons in five months, but I really like running half marathons, and think I can post a great time in my town.

So, this blog is to help me stay on track with this training. It is not going to be easy, and I am really aware of this, but there is an amazing running community out there and I think we can all support each other!
