Today's Training: 8 miles
Year Total: 650 miles

With my IT Band being so awful, I decided to take the advice I have read/got from people and took a few days off. Today was supposed to be a 10 mile run, but I figured with not running for a few days, eight should be just fine.

A few weeks ago I got in touch with the people at ENERGYbits. They are a Boston based company who make these little bits of 100% organically grown spirulina algae. I know, algae. It was something I had to come to grips with.

I am an extremely picky eater, which is pretty awful in a sport like running. I really do not like energy gels, and I have been trying to find an alternative for about a year now. I can only take about half of an energy gel before I feel sick to my stomach. I also really hate the consistency of them. Whenever my friends ask me about them, I always tell them the same things.

When I heard about ENERGYbits, I was really intrigued. Spirulina algae is actually food. It is high in protein and has been used by Olympic athletes for over 50 years. Since they are all natural, there is no extra sugar or chemicals added, which seemed pretty awesome to me.

So I decided to give them a shot.

This morning before my run I took about 15 of the ENERGYbits. They recommend you take 30, but like I said, I can barely handle half an energy gel. 15 seemed like a nice place to start.

They are taken like vitamins. I took them each with water.

Starting out on my run, I was really more focused on my leg. It was feeling alright and I was actually enjoying my nice easy run.

The next thing I know my watch is going off and I have finished seven miles. I cannot even remember the last time I went out on a long run and didn’t have to stop around mile six for some water. It was pretty awesome.

When I finished the next mile I did a few cool down stretches and realized, I wasn’t starving. After every run I am ready to eat my own arm. Not today. I was feeling quite content actually. If my leg wasn’t killing me, I’m pretty sure I could have done those two other miles.

Another thing I noticed about this run, I really wasn’t as sweaty as I usually am. I am the runner who thinks about running and I have sweat dripping down my face. It is very distracting and kind of gross. Today, even with a very sunny 65 degree morning, I barely had a glisten.

I am more than thrilled with this product, and I know you all will be too. Please check them out on all sorts of social media. Their website, has so much useful information it will blow your mind.
