The Double

Today's training: 400x6 and 6 miles - 9 miles total
Year total: 637 miles.

There are 10 weeks to go until the Runners World Half hat trick. While I am completely confident I can run all three races, I wanted to see how it would feel to actually run a 5K and a 10K within an hour of each other.

With my 400x6 workout planned already, I decided to give it a shot. The hardest part was finding a track that I could train on. With school starting soon, the football team was using my first option. My second option, the elementary school track, was being renovated. I remembered the high school has a pretty awful two lane track around the lacrosse and soccer field. Hey, it will have to work.

My IT band has been holding up pretty well for the past few days, and in the start of this workout it was doing fine. About three reps in, I start feeling the pain again. This is going to be a long nine months of training if this thing doesn't work itself out.

I finish the reps and start making my way to my second workout location, down to the Heritage Trail leading to downtown Pittsburgh. I know there is a 4:05 baseball game and it is already close to 10:30. If I am going to be able to enjoy this run.

I get to the trail and start on a nice pace. I started to notice there were a whole lot of people riding bikes. Alright, no problem. Well, it started being a problem when I got down to the stadiums. Bikes and walkers EVERYWHERE! I didn't think five hours before a baseball game would be the prime time to start wandering around.

I make the turn back up the trail and see a whole line of bike riders all wearing the same shirts. I figured it would be time to pick up the pace and just get the heck off this trail.

Finally it was finished. My leg is screaming and I am sweating like crazy, but other than that, I actually feel alright.

I was given a free sample of a product called Energy Bits. They are an all natural tablet that are used instead of energy gels, which are my worst enemy. I decided to give them a shot.
