Finish the Year Strong

During last Sunday's #runchat (yes, I needed to use the hashtag) the final question was:

My answer was...

Then I got to thinking, that seems like a very easy-way-out answer. This has actually been bugging me for most of the day. So while my husband is tinkering in the basement and had to shut off the power (creating an area for my treadmill) I figured why not take this time to think.

Each goal I have for the rest of the year stems from one main goal, 1,000 miles.  I am about 140 miles away as of November 18 (Hopefully that will get updated once I can use my treadmill again). To me, this is quite achievable. I should be much father along in my training, but I have a severe dislike for the month of July, which knocked my mileage back significantly.

I have hit every goal I have set for myself in 2013 by working at that eventual 1,000 mile goal. It's always in the back of my mind. Is that a good thing? I'm not really sure. I'll call it a driving factor and hope that is good enough.

Disney is coming soon, and with that is a lofty 39.3 miles in two days. While I am so looking forward to my vacation, I am actually looking for a marathon PR. It's crazy to think that I would even imagine a PR with doing a half marathon the day before, but I'm doing the half for moral support with my husband and I'm not going for time.

I want the next six weeks, or so, of 2013 to bring me closer to my PR goal. I want to be able to have enjoyable long runs. Not worry about pacing at a specific time, but at a comfortable pace. Right now, that's about 9:20 and will give me my PR for sure. I need to block my last marathon issues out and focus on the task at hand. I need to play the mental game.

To go along with the mental side, I need to learn how to block out distractions. Life gets crazy around the holidays, let's add planning a vacation and preparing for two huge races. It's time to focus on what is most important, and that loops back to the ultimate goal of 1,000 miles.

You know what they say...

Looks like the power came back on. Guess it's time to go back to work =)
