Will it Ever End?

If you live in the Northeastern part of the country, you have been dealing with winter. There is no way around it, it's pretty awful.

After returning back to Pittsburgh from welcoming Tegan to the family, I had to deal with snow and getting back to work. I knew all I needed to finish my year goal was 41 miles. I was aware I had a 21 mile run scheduled, so all I needed was 20 miles during the week. So achievable! It was finally going to end!

Wednesday ended up being my first training of the week. I got stuck at work for two extra hours and had a horrible day. I jumped on the treadmill for five miles and still could not get out of my awful funk.

Thursday we got hit with the cold front. It was a high of 17 degrees. Yeah, treadmill again. I grabbed my Sparkle Athletics skirt for the half marathon part of the goofy challenge and tried to go to a warm place for three miles.

Friday, the heat wave arrived!!! Of course I am being sarcastic, but 30 degrees seemed like it! Went out for a five mile run after work. No one was out. Good. I can take my time and try to enjoy part of this training week. I was just about finished when I had to cross the street. I turned my head and a baby deer was less than three feet from my face! I thought I was going to scream!! I moved a little faster hoping it wouldn't jump out at me! Luckily he stayed put. I got back to my car and had a huge sigh of relief.

The snow was supposed to start around 1am on Saturday. When I woke up, there was nothing. Awesome. I can take my time, get ready and head out on my seven mile journey. When I got to the trail, it had just started. Perfect. When I made the turn at the half way point, I was met graciously by Mother Nature. Wind, snow and sleet in my face. The ground became so slick I saw people falling. Please just let me get back to my car. Two inches of snow had to have fallen in an hour.

I was 21 miles away from 1,000 - with a 21 mile run scheduled on Sunday. This is going to happen! I did everything I needed to!

So I woke up this morning and noticed a salt truck going by. It turned out the snow stopped at some point, giving way to freezing rain. I decided to give it a shot. If it was bad, I would come home and get some sort of miles in.

I made it 100 yards from my car before I had to turn around. Everything was a sheet of ice. Instantly, my want to run today was deflated. I just wanted to hit my goal!! Plus, we are under a month from Disney and I really needed this long run.

So I came home and jumped on the treadmill. I told myself, just run. See how far you can go. I have never ran more than six miles on the treadmill, and that streak would continue today. At the four mile mark, I was sweating and cramping. Not at all what I wanted. I finished six miles, hit the stop button and turned off the treadmill. Why can I not conquer this machine!?!

Either way, it was a rough week, but we all have them. I already have 67 miles in for the month and I'm on target to hit 1,000 in three workouts. Need to focus next week on staying positive for sure.
