Columbus Marathon Training: Week Eight

It's over the hump week!! Eight weeks of training are complete and it was just the week I needed! It was a cutback week and it was great.  The past few weeks have been just going through the motions, this week was all about the goal.

This week, this idiot was focusing on goal pace (9:30). My next half marathon is two weeks from today and it has pretty much been on the back burner. I have never raced during marathon training and have been quite nervous about how it is going to turn out.

I had four workouts this week. They were done on treadmill and trails. My weekly total was 31, so far for August I have 124.5 and 768 for 2014.

I know what you're thinking, "Steff, that's five workouts. Count much?" Actually, I had to split up my long run. I did the 10 miles and my legs felt really good. The ability to breathe, on the other hand, was zapped away with a mix of high humidity and major grass cutting. I haven't split up a workout in a long time, and I feel very happy with my decision.

My marathon shoes came this week! I am replacing my Mizuno Wave Rider 17 with the exact same pair. I really like this shoe and got a great deal on them!

No miles vs. 375 miles...

I did stop at Panera this week and got a half classic salad. I may have forgotten to take a photo because I was so hungry I devoured it!

Oh, I almost forgot! Girls Run Fast are doing a giveaway for two hydration systems! You can find them on Facebook and twitter for the instructions to enter!!

Next week, mileage picks back up and I'm not scared of it. The heat will also be back. I've been working really hard on my hydration and I do see a difference when I am properly hydrated. I'm learning people!

Do you race different distances in marathon training? Do you race to PR or to gauge where you are at in training?

  1. Steffany, this sounds like a much better training week for you; way to go with your workouts and staying hydrated! Yay for new shoes, and you're going to ROCK this half-marathon! I hope this week goes well, and I can't wait to hear all about it. Take care and be safe out there!

  2. Looks like your training is right on track. I've had to split up a long run once and it was a good decision, kind of refreshing to switch it up. I'm hoping the weather remains cool for the weekend, but just in case starting extra early. North Shore Sat, NP Sunday - hope to see you. If you see me - turn around and join!
