Rock N Roll NOLA Training: Week One

Just like that, it's time to start another training plan! Time to put away the thoughts of the last race and get back out there!

To say that I'm freaking out is an understatement. I only have 12 week to prepare for this race. Even though I am in fantastic shape, it's still scary!!

This week, I had four workouts. They totaled 29.1 miles. For November I have 39.1 miles and 1,074 miles for 2014.

I ended up skipping a workout this week and I don't regret it. During my 15 mile run, I had a very odd out of body experience. I finished my run, but had zero energy left. None. I'm really surprised I finished it. I tried to run the next day, but I started having the same feeling. I can only describe it as the feeling you get when you are done with sneezing a lot. Completely draining.

This early in my training, as long as I get my long run and track workout in, I am super okay with it. Stuff happens, and I'm not going to sweat the small stuff.

I also used Sunday to cheer on my friends and member of the Flock during the EQT 10 Miler here in Pittsburgh. Me and my friend Lauren took home at mile 5.5 and cheered on the runners! After which, I met up with my Flock for brunch. It was a great day! I even had someone yell out that she follows me on Instagram. Seriously!

Thank you Lauren for joining me!
I was so excited to cheer on my birds!
A good chunk of the Pittsburgh birds!

Next week is my first experience with a cutback speed week. I have two speed workouts (track and tempo) and my 10 mile long run is at marathon pace. I really believe if I can crush this upcoming week, there will be no stopping me for NOLA!

Have you spectated a race before? What was your experience?

  1. Girl, you are a machine!! You're going to rock NOLA!
I've never spectated any race before, but I keep saying that I need to! Spectators always give me such a boost when I'm running and I feel like I need to reciprocate that someday!

It was an absolutely humbling experience! I hope to do it more often!

  5. Good luck with training for this race! Sucks that the weather is starting to turn and make it more difficult to run outside

  6. How did you get the one of you during the long run? Are you using a timer or something?

It's gonna be rough training in the cold for a warm weather race!
