Pittsburgh Running Blogger Spotlight: Becky

In this edition of the Pittsburgh Running Blogger Spotlight, I am super excited to introduce you all to Becky from 'lil Burghers!

I am a mom of 2 +2 more on the way (so I am currently sidelined from running due to some bone issues I had early on in my pregnancy - boo!). Running was a JOKE for me up until my son (2nd kid) was 6 months old and I was hovering near 300 pounds. A friend of mine had preemie twins the year before and ran off her weight and stress, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it too. I got up and started the Couch to 5K program and although it took me almost a year to actually run my first one (thanks to Pittsburgh winters!), I officially became a runner and used running to shed 130 pounds. Now that I can't run until June, I am working on my running bucket list and can't wait to hit the pavement again.

Ok, being a runner isn't *everything* about me. I work full time plus some, blog, and love spending time with my family. People aren't really sure when I have time to run, but you have to make it happen and still live. It's all about balance.

What is your favorite local race and why?
B: Pittsburgh Half Marathon - it was my first BIG race and that whole weekend is just one amazing experience. So many people, and it doesn't matter what your pace is, there are always people there to cheer you on and build you up. It's incredible.

What is your favorite thing about running?
B: Being my own competitor and running off stress.

What is your favorite piece of running gear?
B: I'll admit - while running isn't all about the pace, I love to beat my old times. My favorite gear is my Nike+ running watch because it keeps me in check.

What is your favorite running moment?
B: The 2014 Pittsburgh Marathon Relay - I ran the last two legs. After handing my husband his medal for his first "big run" (that hill in Oakland - he's my beast), I cried out of pride for him, myself, our city. The next 11 miles flew by and I was so incredibly happy that I was healthy enough to accomplish that, but mad that I didn't just do the Half again to crush my old time. Crossing that finish line with runners who logged 26.2 is humbling and beautiful.

Becky said earlier that she is expecting twins, and they are coming on Thursday!! How exciting!! Make sure you head over to Twitter and show her some love! I'm sure she will have so much more to blog about with the new additions!
