Pittsburgh Running Blogger Spotlight: Nichole

This week on the Pittsburgh Running Blogger Spotlight, I am happy to introduce you to Nichole from Grey Shirt Running!

I'm a 30 something mom of 3 kids and 3 kitties. After an early adulthood of deep depression stemming from infertility issues I found myself obese and unable to even walk a single mile without feeling like I was going to die. In order to get myself out of my funk and increase my chances of getting pregnant I got my act together in the food and fitness department. Between 2004-2009 I lost over 100 lbs and gained 3 wonderful kids! I got into a workout rut in 2010/2011 and needed something to challenge myself. I always envied the runners I saw, so I figured I'd give it a go. I started c25k, fell in love with running, ran my first 5K race in the fall of 2012 and the rest... well you know how it goes! Now I'm training for my second marathon and I'm also a certified personal trainer helping others with their health and fitness goals!

What is your favorite local race and why?
N: Buffalo Creek Half Marathon - fantastic course, beautiful scenery during the best season of the year, wonderful volunteers and staff, just big enough and just small enough. Awesome all around.

What is your favorite thing about running?
N: I love the challenge - how far can I go? How fast? I won't know until I try!

What is your favorite piece of running gear?
N: Arm sleeves. Any brand - they're great during the in between seasons and while waiting on race starts.

What is your favorite running moment?
N: Crossing the finish line of MCM 2014. It brought to a close nearly a year of determination, hard work, fear and "what if"s.
