Tinkerbell Half Marathon Training: Week Four

You know what the hard part of training for a race that is different from your friends? You get your training plan messed up! I thought this week was my peak week. Yep, I have another two weeks until that happens!

Anyway, this week I wanted to focus on consistency. Little did I know that Mother Nature would slam us with thunderstorms and flooding. I did whatever I could and did not focus on what I missed. That's a big thing for me!

This week I had five workouts that totaled 29.7 miles. For April I have 53.2 miles and 354 miles towards my 2015 goal of 1,200 miles.

Life has really been testing me this month. Between my car needing more tires (10 tires since 2011), the student loan people trying to double charge my payoff amount and a slight bumper bump the other day - I am surprised I have been able to stay motivated. Life happens people, no one is perfect and the storm will always pass. Continue on your journey no matter what. Control what you can control.

I have also come to the realization this week that I may not hit my 5K goal for Pittsburgh. I really wanted to go sub-23, but I don't think my fitness is there. Don't get me wrong, I am still going to give it my all, I just won't be super bummed out if I don't hit the goal. I am racing a 10K next weekend and I have no idea what to expect!

Tink bib numbers and corrals were released this week! I had submitted my Great Race 10K time (50:29) and hoped for a nice placement. To my shock, my number is in the top 100! Even including the elites! It is my first corral A placement and I am so excited!! It could not have happened at a better time. I won't be racing the 10K that weekend, I will actually be moving back to run with a friend of mine. I will be using that corral A spot for that half though!

Huge congrats goes out to Chelsea and Kelsey who completed Ragnar SoCal this weekend!! Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend!

Did flooding disrupt your training this week? How did you adapt?

  1. Congratulations on a corral A placement! That's so exciting. Luckily the storms happened when I was just doing an easy pre-race shakeout, so it didn't really disrupt my week much. Hopefully things will go better for you this week :) sending good vibes your way!

  2. The flooding didn't interfere with my training this week, thankfully. It did mess up a good chunk of our yard, though! Good job this week - and congrats on the placement! Also - thanks for the reminder of "control what you can control" - I definitely needed that today.
