Marathon Thoughts...

If you are like me, you have VERY random thoughts while you are running. I've read very funny articles about people creating inventions, solving math problems and everything else. I tend to have ideas that will never actually work, but seem like a good idea at the time.

You guys all know I have been very adamant about not running another marathon this year. It has been pretty awesome, not going to lie, but there is something about the race that ALWAYS sucks you back in. My entire run on Tuesday was completely filled with thoughts of running my next marathon.

WHY!?! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME!?! I'm only a few weeks away from starting a new half marathon training plan and I'm already thinking about a marathon!

Of course, during this run filled with marathon thoughts, I may have figured out how this could happen before next fall.

Me and Joe have been talking about taking a trip down to visit our friends in Louisiana together. Joe has been there twice and I went earlier this year. We haven't been there together yet! Joe gets an extra weeks vacation in 2016 and I have four weeks already. It looks like 2016 could be our time!

Pittsburgh winters suck. Well, for most of the North. We really like to escape for a little bit if we can. A five day weekend in January was perfect this year. Sunshine and no snow. It warmed my soul.

Yes, this is still during my five mile run.

When I got home I texted my friend and asked her a whole bunch of random questions that led to the eventual, "so if we come and visit in January maybe I will run the Louisiana Marathon. Not just the half either". Of course she was ├╝ber supportive. She was the one that took the journey to NOLA with me!

The problem would be Joe.

My husband is my biggest fan, there is no doubt about that. We all know the sacrifice that comes with being in a relationship with a runner. The non-runner does not get enough credit for their roles. Our last three vacations have been for me to race. He had a mild meltdown in Columbus about me wanting to use vacations for races. Ask Gloria, it happened on the escalator up to the entrance of the expo.

When Joe got home I just said it:

"So if we go to Louisiana in January, what would you think about me running the Louisiana marathon?"

There was only one reaction I was expecting - WHAT DO YOU MEAN? ANOTHER VACATION WHERE YOU WANT TO RUN? YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE A RACE IN LOUISIANA WHY DO YOU NEED TO DO ANOTHER ONE!?!

The reaction I got:

"Well, if we are already going to be there, why not!"

No. Words.

I was speechless and just started laughing. He didn't understand what I was doing. I kinda felt like a toy with dying batteries. It was the only noise that would come out. He then said something along the lines of it's only going to take a few hours of our vacation, and it would be towards the end. Plus, if you really didn't want to run the marathon you could always just do the half. Also, our friends reminded me that he knows he is going to eat A LOT of food he likes and we will actually all be together for the first time since they moved down there.

Again, is this really happening?

So, as of right now, I am committing myself to running the 2016 Louisiana Marathon! I have decided to not run the Buffalo Creek half marathon this year to fully give this training a shot. We will be running Wine and Dine but that will be my only long race after Akron in September.

What crazy ideas have you had while running? Have you ever actually acted on one of these ideas?

  1. Ya just a few months ago while running I thought I need to buy a house. Me and my wife move our condo and the people around us so buying a house wasn't in the cards for at least another year or 2. Well needless to say next month is the closing on my house. Lol, I didn't tell my wife I tbought of that running or she would of killed me. I just made up some bullshit about I need more room and our dog needs a bigger yard
