Akron Half Marathon Training: Week Three

This week was my first week playing with my new goal half marathon pace. I have never attempted a half marathon at a 8:15 pace and I'm not gonna lie, I was a little nervous!

This week I had five workouts that equaled 28 miles. For June I have 96.2 miles and 571 miles towards my 2015 goal of 1,200 miles. I also had a 25 minute kettle bell workout (Jillian Micheals,  ouch) and some sort of core workout that I will not be doing again.

This week involved some crazy weather, my birthday and some soul searching. My run on Friday was in the mid 80's and my long run on Sunday was down in the 60's! I had cake and ice cream and didn't die! I wanted to thank you all for the birthday wishes! It means so much to me!

I added a race to my race calendar! The EQT 10 Miler added a relay option! Since I really do not like 10 mile races, I was super excited when Kristy said she would be on my team! She even reassured me we are racing it! I'm really freaking excited!

I also came to a personal conclusion that Facebook can be a terrible place. Social media is a place that is meant to connect is all, not tear us down. While everyone is completely entitled to their own opinion, sometimes the Internet is not the place to air your dirty laundry. I'll keep my blogs Facebook page going, but I won't be updating my personal one.

I have a race on Saturday, but I do not plan on racing it. I have become smarter in my few days of being 28. I have a tough track workout this week, and having two days of speed work may not be the smartest idea. Eye on the prize, I'm working towards that half marathon PR!!

Did you get any crazy storm damage this week? What is your favorite thing to do on your birthday?

  1. You can do a 8:15 pace no problem. I am still debating on the EQT race. 10 milers really aren't my thing but it is a decent race so I may still sign up. I was lucky and got zero damage from the storms. I do know a lot of people that had trees come down and do some major damage to their house and yards

  2. It rained ALL DAY at my parent's house on Saturday. Did not stop once and everything was flooded! No fun. Hope you had a great birthday!

  3. I'm so glad to hear that you are planning to run for fun this weekend, Steff; eyes on the prize, indeed, girl! Woo hoo!! I don't put much on my personal FB page anymore, either; usually I'm just sharing things because it's a good recipe or a funny picture - ha! You had a great training week; I'm so glad things are going well and I hope your week is off to a great start!

  4. Thanks Tara. I'm not the best with "racing for fun" but I'm willing to try!
