Akron Half Marathon Training: Week 15

This is it. Week 15 was my final full week of training. I wish I could say it was a taper, but it was pretty much just a cut back week. It is all about getting ready for race day!

This week I had five runs that totaled 30 miles. For September I have 103 miles and 954 miles towards my 2015 goal of 1,200 miles.

My long run this week was pretty fantastic. Carrie and I met at 6:30am in the dark. We even ran in long sleeves! Anyway, miles six and seven were slated at HMP (8:15). Well, Carrie had to reel me back in! We ended up doing them at 8:01 and 8:05! We were even talking the whole time. It is crazy because the last time we did HMP during a long run was my 16 miler a few weeks ago and I was dying the final mile. It was a beautiful thing. All of the miles during this training plan felt worth it for that moment. It has really been an adventure, and I finally feel ready for the race!

After we were done with our morning I took an awesome nap. When I woke up I had texts from two of my favorite people Cecilia and Tara. They both CRUSHED their races! I have such race envy right now and I could not be any more excited for them! I shared with them about my training run and we had a great talk. I am so lucky to have such amazing running friends who I can share my journey with!

I got my new phone! I ended up with the iPhone 6 and have been adjusting to it! The screen is much bigger compared to my last iPhone. I had to change the setting and make the text bigger because I was so use to where the keys were on the old phone that my spelling was suffering!

If you are running The Great Race, I believe we have settled on a cheer spot! Look for us and the world's most annoying cow bell right when you turn on to Fort Pitt Blvd! Selfies will be encouraged! 

I feel like there is so much left to do before we leave for Akron on Friday afternoon! I have two training runs left, and tons of time being spent in all my PRO Compression gear. I have been in my compression tights since I got home, and may not take them off until the race!

  1. YAY!!! I know you're going to do so great, Steff; all this speed that you've been struggling to contain? Uh,'re about unleash that shit like a madwoman! I'm so excited for you...can you just do it now? :) Thanks for the shout-out, young lady; I love getting texts from you both. I also love that we were sharing our very similar speed workouts with Cecilia; we should just send her our training plans - ha! I'm so glad that you're enjoying (and adjusting to) your new phone; it always takes me awhile to get used to the changes, but it's lots of fun. Can't wait to read more this week - eeeeek!!
