Five Things Friday - 1.8

Happy Friday everyone! It has been a long, crazy week for sure! I don't know about you, but I am SOOOOOOOOOO ready for the weekend!! Just wanted to share some things with you all for this Five Things Friday. Just a little bit to get you through the last day of the week!

1. Please tell me you saw what New Balance said. I just have no words for it and I am super glad I don't wear their product. They have since taken this down, but not before it went viral.

2. The PRO Compression sock of the month is out! I LOVE stripes and this sock is pretty on point. Use promo code JANSOM for 40% off and free shipping. If you want it, don't wait! It will sell out!

3. Registration for the Akron Marathon opens today!!! I am so excited to get to participate in race weekend again this year. I'll be running the marathon to complete all the races! I did the relay in 2014 and the half in 2015!

4. The Pittsburgh Marathon kick off run is on Saturday morning. It is a great opportunity to kick your training off right and make some new friends! I will be there running with the three mile group. If you see me make sure you say hello!

5. Some new fun stuff is coming to Run Steff Run! I have a new weekly series coming starting on Tuesday, and trust me, you do not want to miss it! It might be my favorite thing I have done on here.

This weekend will be filled with packing and getting the last little big of stuff ready for our trip! I am so excited and hope it starts going quickly!

  2. I didn't see that about New Balance either! That's awful, & is honestly kind of hurtful! I was trying to look it up online to see if anyone posted an article about it.. where did you see it?

    1. I actually saw it for the first time on my Oiselle Team Facebook page. They took it down, thankfully but not before the Internet got ahold of it!

  4. Um, yeah, very disgusted by this New Balance post and I'm so thankful that so many people saw it and shared it before they took it down. I may not be fast, but I work hard and I'm an athlete...and so are millions of other people. Good grief. I'm so excited to see your new series and I hope you have a great weekend, Steff!

  5. I didn't see the New Balance thing so I'll have to do some research! I actually love their shoes and my favorite jacket is by them, so that is really disappointing :(

  6. Two marathons in one year? That's awesome! I'm debating about a fall marathon, too. I have to find one late enough to be able to take a little time off after my June one though.
I feel as if I'm the only one not offended by that New Balance campaign. I don't think it was a smart move by any means and definitely alienated people! This is completely my opinion based on how I view myself - I don't see myself as an "athlete"; I look at Kara Goucher, that's an athlete. Me? I'm just some girl who decided a couple years ago to try to run so I lace up my shoes and get out there. I'm a runner, but not an athlete. I'll never win an award or a race, and I'll can hope to do is better myself and eventually qualify for Boston. But in my eyes, that will never make me an athlete. Most likely it has to do with my upbringing and how I was taught to see myself - as the bookworm, whereas my brother was the athlete. Honestly, I still feel as if I'm the slightly chubby girl who is out of place at the gym and at races. I don't know if I'll ever see myself as an "athlete."

    1. Girl you are totally an athlete! You have done what only 1% of the population has done, RUN A MARATHON! I get it, but trust me when I say that you are!

  7. I don't think I've ever owned anything by New Balance and I'm not going to start now.

  8. Woof. I didn't catch wind of that New Balance post either THANK GOD because I would have gone ballistic.

I really loved my Akron experience last year, and considering the half this time around. Will definitely need to think about this!
