New Year New Mindset

I'm not the type of person to make resolutions. For example, when I was younger I always made a resolution to stop biting my nails. Never worked. When I stopped forcing myself to think about it, I did! My mind works very well when it is free.

Yes, that happened. Anyway...

In 2015 I made a lot of adult decisions about my personal life. I don't need to go into details but some things had to be done and I did. It was one of the greatest decisions I have made in my personal life. I also closed some chapters that were lingering and came to peace with other things.

One small change can really change your outlook. I'm planning on continuing that into 2016. It is not a resolution, it is a mindset. I am in the later stages of my 20s. I have less than a year and half until I am 30. I cannot be focused on bad vibes and the such. If that means leaving some things in 2015, then that's what is going to have to happen.

Pretty much, I'm too old to be worried about if I'm getting invited to your birthday party. I cannot give energy on things that are out of my control. This is pretty much my biggest struggle in life, and I am working on it.

Earlier this year (lol) I spent some time with the unfollow button on Facebook. SO AWESOME! I love that thing! I also have made some decisions about my running life. I ran 21 races last year and that is just crazy. I love my running friends, but I'm learning to just say no. I might go to the races, but I don't need to run them all. I don't need to run five races in seven weeks in three states to prove I'm a runner. If I didn't race at all in 2016 I would be fine, but I will. Plus, I'm super close to some major financial breakthroughs (paying off my car AND my student loans) and not racing as much will let me pump some extra dollars into those things.

No one should take any of this personally, I know I wouldn't. I'm finally making myself a priority in my own life. 2015 was a great start to this and I'm building on it!

Do you make New Years Resolutions? Have you ever actually achieved them?

  1. You're absolutely right that races are EXPENSIVE! I was thinking about running the Frigid 5 on Sunday, but then I thought that I can suffer for free on my own haha. It's supposed to be cold and rainy anyway, so count me out, and I'll put that $30 towards a new house. WIN WIN!

P.S. I will be VERY offended if you don't invite me to your birthday party, so get that invitation ready ;) (just kidddinggg)

    1. hahaha! Actually, we will be at the beach for my birthday this year. No party for me!

  2. YAY!! I love this, Steff! I wish I had my shit together like you do when I was 26 - hahaha! I feel like you are WAY ahead of the curve, my friend. I have no doubt that you will have a wonderful 2016; thankful to call you a friend and follow along!

    1. I wish I had my shit together at 26 lol. 28 has taught me so much, I just want to keep on this healthy path. I'm so lucky for our friendship!
