The Week That Was: 5.23 - 5.29

This week was the first "hot" week of the year. The sun would be out everyday and the temps would be well into the 80s. It was the perfect week to get use to training again.

I rested on Monday and Tuesday this week. I was really tired from a super busy few days at work so I took advantage and refreshed. It was so nice. 

Wednesday I attempted my first fartlek in a while. It was slightly a disaster. I may have pushed a little hard in the first mile, then just cramped. I couldn't shake it. I tried to keep up with the workout, but ended up cutting it a half mile short. It's alright, still ran four and a half miles! 

Thursday I got my hair cut. Thank goodness because I needed six hair ties to put it up that day! I also finished up some loose ends for the next few weeks which made me feel a lot better. 

I think Friday was the hottest day. I wanted to run my neighborhood hills. Two miles of nothing but hills. No flat. Man did I forget how tough that was! 

Saturday morning I took a nice easy run down the North Shore. It was just so nice to be outside. Pace didn't matter, just moving. Sure it was warm, but I really didn't mind. Six miles was perfect for this day. 

Sunday is long run day. I wanted at least 10 miles which seemed like a great time to test the Hoka's for a long run. I got out there a little later than I thought I would. It wasn't as sunny out, just hot. About two and a half miles in I ran into Bethany going the other direction. We decided to run together. 

Thank goodness we did. We ended up seeing two grown men get in a screaming match, a lady get stopped by her ex husband and some other incredibly strange things. Legit, this happened. It was nice to change things up and run with someone. The ten miles went quick and I was ready for a Mountain Dew and a nap! 

Weekly Total: 22.5 miles
Monthly Total: 80 miles

Other notes from the week would be my shoe choice. I wore my Hoka One One Clifton 2's all week. I really like them. My foot doesn't hurt at all and I was thrilled when they held up on my long run. I also did something I haven't done in years, be able to wear full compression socks!! I've had some random swelling come back on my ankle bone and being able to have the full compression while I run has really helped!

I start training the week of June 6! I can't believe it is almost here! While I don't have PR goals this year, I want to build and grow. I want to be consistent. I want to be focused on something again. I am pretty excited.
