Princess Half Marathon Training - Week Eight

Peak week is next week and this week was a cut back week. Let me tell you, I had a very strange training week. I was very happy it was a cut back week.

Monday was my rest day and I did a hip strengthening workout. I really enjoy doing this workout so I try to do it at least once a week. I also got to pick up my shoe order! I will start using a new pair of shoes for my long run that will be my race shoes! It's coming!

Tuesday was my strange workout for the week. Here is how it went.
Two mile warm up
8 x 800m (3:43, 3:42, 3:32, 3:45, 3:37, 3:35, 3:32, 3:41)
200m recovery
Then I found Kelsey before I finished my cool down and decided to run her five miles with her. So, in total I ran 12 miles with a bunch of 800s in the middle.

Wednesday I had nine miles on tap with six at marathon pace (8:40-8:45). Kelsey wanted to run a few hills so I decided to do my MP miles first and then three miles with her to finish it out. My paced miles were really good (8:30, 8:38, 8:37, 8:33, 8:31, 8:30) and then adding the hills at the end felt really good too! I even got to run in shorts, which I would very much regret later in the week.

Thursday I started feeling very congested. I went to bed around 6pm and didn't care at all. Not sick, just really stuffy.

Friday I still was stuffy and decided to try to sweat it out on the treadmill. I did six miles and finished it with some foam rolling. It's so nice to get some warmer runs in, you never know how Florida will react for Princess.

Saturday I woke up and couldn't breathe. Still not a sick feeling, but my head was so stuffed. I decided to rest, eat soup and jello and majorly hydrate. Since I had already done a longer run than I needed to this week, I knew my weekend long run would be shorter. I just wanted to get the miles in.

Sunday I woke up feeling better so I went out to do my run. I made it a mile and had to stop. My nose just ran and I couldn't catch a full breath. It's alright. I would much rather take the extra rest and go in to next week healthy. I did treat myself to a donut and coffee when I was finished, because I deserved it! Plus, no one wants to see a picture of snotty me.

Weekly Total: 28 Miles
January Total: 128.7 Miles

Like I said, I'm not worried about taking the extra rest this week. My peak week is next week and things are starting to get real! I would much rather take the time and make sure my body is healthy than risk getting injured. Besides having my longest long run of this training cycle next week, I have a date with a workout that chewed me up last time I tried. My goal is to have a better showing with it to see how far I have come.
