Pittsburgh Marathon Training: Week One

It's here! It's the first official week of Pittsburgh Marathon training! Is it weird to say that I never thought it was actually coming? I've been so focused on Princess for so long, moving on seemed weird.

Monday I worked all day, so no running. I did finally take a look at my training to see what was coming. I did a nice job of building everything up and I didn't feel overwhelmed. Huge accomplishment!

Tuesday I did five treadmill miles at a 9:15 pace. I am really focusing on slowing down my easy days for this training cycle. The treadmill miles felt great. Very fluid and easy. I was pleased.

Wednesday it was so windy. I was so mad. I didn't want to run on the treadmill again, but I knew I was missing two days of training with travel to DC for the race. I ended up cross training a little and foam rolling. Hey, it was something.

Thursday I got out for five marathon paced miles. Since I don't have a goal for the marathon, I decided to just continue with the paces I was training at for Princess. This means that marathon pace should be around 8:45-8:50. I averaged an 8:46 pace. I would say I nailed it!

Friday we left for DC. I had also decided on Friday I was not going to race the half marathon. I was going to run it for fun. With the projection of cold weather, I knew it wouldn't be smart to race.

Saturday was the half marathon and it was a lot of fun! I will have my full race recap later this week, but I am already looking forward to next year!

Sunday was the drive home. I rolled later once I got home, but that was about it. It was a super easy week of training, but after a week off and starting marathon training, I think it was needed.

Weekly Total: 23.1 miles
March Total: 26.2 miles
2017 Total: 273 miles

Overall, it was a really fun week. I am really excited to get in to marathon training and building on the base I have in place.

  5. So cool that your planned out doing half training as the base to jump into full marathon training. I think I'm going to be volunteering this year, so I'll have to let everyone know where I'll be. Glad you had a fun race Saturday--I know many people were struggling due to the cold. Here's to a good marathon training cycle!
