Journey to the Pittsburgh Marathon

It's here! Pittsburgh Marathon weekend is finally here. I feel like it was so long ago that I announced I was running the marathon. So many things have happened since that day, including a failed half marathon, my second best half marathon, a swollen eye ball and all the miles in between. Here is a little break down of how my training added up this cycle.

Weeks of Training - Nine
Total Miles - 225
Worst Run - Entire cut back week
Best Run - 20 miler
Races - Rock 'n' Roll DC Half MarathonJust A Short Run 30k, Towpath Half Marathon
Injuries - Swollen eye ball?

So let's get in to this. Technically I have been training for this race since the beginning of March, I ran a 15 miler during my Princess training to make sure I could still do the higher (because running is ALL MENTAL). After a week off from running to play in Disney, it was straight in to marathon training!

My training really felt real when I finished Just A Short Run. I haven't run more than 15 miles in so long, it felt amazing to run the 30k. Even though it wasn't a race a just a training run, it really helped my confidence.

And then the next week it all came crashing down. During my only cut back week I ran a total of 10 miles. My swollen eye ball was at its worst and the medication was making me miserable. It was the best decision for me to cut way back that week.

Since then, my training went really well. I ran my second best half marathon at the Towpath and probably my best 20 miler ever the week after. My long runs were consistently my best runs of this cycle. Very much not the norm for me.

I have been asked so many times what my goal is for this race. It's simple, finish. I have no goals. I don't want any. I want to enjoy this experience. Sure, I would love to chase down a marathon PR on Sunday, but I'm not making it a focus. The weather looks really good, and I am really looking forward to enjoying the course and the energy.

I want to thank you all for following along on my journey. I love and cherish the support I receive from all of you, and I hope you can feel it in return. I look forward to seeing so many of you this weekend. Good luck and remember, this is your victory lap. You put in all the hard work now it's time to show it off!
