Summer Training - Week One

This was my first week back to running post marathon/eye surgery. I knew it was going to be rough. They say you don't lose much fitness in a two week rest, I totally beg to differ. This week was as rough as I thought it would be.

Monday was the day. I was going running. I wanted to take it easy this week. Not worry about pace just about getting some distance in. Plus, I wanted to listen to my body mostly. If something didn't feel right, I wanted to tone it back.

I ran four miles and I felt every single pound I put on (even though I lost my medication weight) and every ache and pain from the marathon. The only perk of the eye surgery was having to ignore the usual post marathon pains!

Tuesday and Wednesday I took care of some things I have been putting off. While there were no workouts, it felt good to check some things off of my to do list. I did get my most recent Senita order! I will review the Sarah Sports Bra for you all in a few weeks! It's the teal one.

Thursday I got to finally complete my Gone For A Run One Awesome Mother Runner virtual 5k. You can read all about it here.

I also retired my third pair of Saucony Ride 9 on this run. 200 miles on them but I couldn't handle the squeaking that started after the bloody half marathon back in April.

Friday I decided to treat myself. Burgatory releases a special milkshake every weekend. Well, this weekend they brought back my favorite Strawberry Pretzel shake and I had to stop! Plus I got some french fries and was in heaven.

After everything settled I did a kettle bell workout. Guys, this 20 minute workout was legit. This is the one I did. I have to get back in to strength training. There is no way around it. Summer is the perfect time to do this.

Saturday I went to the Graduation Party of one of the girls I work with at the running store. I can't believe she is going off to college! 

Sunday was my "long run". I use quotes because when you aren't really training for anything, your long run can be whatever you want! For five miles I did run/walk and sneezed the entire time. Hello allergies! My hip has also been really tight which is making me super excited for my massage on Tuesday. 

Weekly Total: 12.1 miles
May Total: 46.4 miles
2017 Total: 513 miles

I'm slowly coming back and that's okay. Sometimes it's nice to take a step back and just enjoy the ride. I'm really excited for a low key summer training. It's been awhile since I've had one! I have another eye doctor appointment on Wednesday and I'm hoping for good things since everything has been improving!

    I love that you treated yourself on Friday - that shake looks like heaven!

  2. I'm also loving low-key training right now. I just hope I don't get too used to it! I'm surprised you were able to get a shot of just you on the river trail. I forgot how busy it gets in the summer on weekends!
