Summer Training - Week Three

This week was time to get back to business. I waited long enough to start training again, it was time to rip the bandaid. Whoever said you do not lose that much fitness with two weeks off lied. They lied hard.

Monday I rested. I was tired. I went to bed early and felt great about it.

Tuesday it was time to get back on the track. Fall PR's are made in the summer people. I grabbed Kelsey and we headed off for our first hard workout of summer training. Here was the workout:
1 mile warm up (8:16)
200m x 10 (41, 45, 47, 46, 45, 43, 47, 44, 45, 45) goal time 48 seconds
200m recovery
1 mile cool down (8:56)
4.5 miles total.

This workout felt great. It was nice and overcast and I got in a rhythm pretty quick. No matter how long it's been since I was on the track, my legs always perform when I get back. I have a track workout scheduled for myself once a week for the next few weeks. I think Kelsey will be joining me too!

Wednesday I got to run with the Mojo crew. We did four miles and ran to ice cream since it was not only Global Running Day but National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! So duh!

Thursday I took a rest day. I really needed to get my hair cut.

I also said to you all if I had a good doctors visit I would sign up for a race. Well, I am one to keep my word. I am running the Presque Isle half marathon in July up on Lake Erie. If you are thinking about it the race is $36. You can't beat it!

Friday I did a strength workout. Just some basic upper body work and some balance. A few weeks ago I tried to do basic squats on my stability balls and could barely keep my balance. I wanted to see how far I've come. I not only could keep my balance, but I did the squats with my kettle bell! Progress!

Saturday Kelsey and I met Jessie over at Pro Bikes for their group run. I love running in new parts (to me) of the city. We ran through Frick Park for 5.5 miles. We got rained on, a little lost and then ate some donuts. It was a fun morning!

Later that night hubs planned a surprise 30th birthday party for me! We have a wedding next weekend and then we are going to Disney so this was the only weekend it could be done. It was so much fun and a huge surprise!

Sunday I had three recovery miles in the sun. It felt so nice to be running in the warm but I totally forgot how hot the sun could really be. I'll take it anytime over the snow!

Weekly Total: 17 miles
June Total: 22 miles
2017 Total: 540 miles

It was a great official start back to training. I'm feeling good and excited for the next week of training. The weather is going to start to be a little warmer so I'm interested to see how my body reacts.

Pittsburgh Running Bloggers add your weekly recap to the link up below.

  1. Nice job this week! Even though you feel like you lost a lot of fitness, it will come back quickly. Glad to hear your signed up for your next race :)

  2. Aw, how nice to have a surprise birthday party! I'll be curious to hear how the Presque Isle race is! Man, that sun was HOT on Sunday. I keep pretending that I will never have to run a race in the sun so that I can keep training in the dark and shade.

    1. IT WAS SO HOT! I wasn't ready for it. I'm super excited to finally run PI!
