Summer Training - Week Seven

This week was nuts! Between the holiday, a race, starting a new job and needing to get in a long run - I had a lot to do! The biggest thing was working on my new schedule. I think I did pretty well.

Monday I had three easy miles on tap. I had a ton of stuff to do before the holiday and going back to work, so I was happy to get the three miles in on the local track before the masses showed up. Really, when I finished and was walking to my car it was like the bus just dropped off! It was crazy!

Tuesday I ran the Brentwood Firecracker 5k, which you can read all about here.

Wednesday was my first day at work! It is so nice to be back in an office setting. I met so many people and everyone was so nice and welcoming. I knew when I got home I had three miles on tap, and that I had to keep them slow. From my 5k time I got my easy training pace for the Elite Running Academy. I knew if I ran the hills in my neighborhood I would stay slow. While it wasn't as slow as it should have been, it was close and I felt good.

Thursday I did 30 minutes on the bike trainer. Guys, I forgot how boring the bike trainer can be. I listened to a podcast, which helped, but my hips were very angry by the end of it. I need to keep at it and not stop. Hopefully I can do it once a week.

Friday was a rest day! Mainly because I had a rocking headache from some storms that rolled through. Nothing crazy that some nice sleep couldn't take care of.

Saturday I had four easy miles on tap. Again, it wasn't as slow as it should have been, but it felt very easy. No heavy breathing or anything and my legs felt great which I guess is really what matters.

Sunday I needed a double digit long run. I have a half marathon next weekend and the farthest I have ran since the marathon two months ago was seven miles. Not going to cut it. Carrie said she would join me for 10 easy miles. That is exactly what we did. Pretty much a perfect 10:00/mile pace which felt easy. After we met some other Pittsburgh running ladies for brunch and had an awesome time! I'm so happy the internet brought all of us together!

Weekly Total: 23.1 miles
July Total: 23.1 miles
2017 Total: 596 miles

I had a really great week! It's been awhile since I had a really great week. I am happy that my new routine seems to be working and I feel so much better when I leave work and ready to workout. I also feel much better about my half next weekend that I have the double digit run under my belt. There will be no racing, but running a smart 13.1 miles.
