Summer Training - Weeks Five and Six

I have a lot to catch you guys up on! Two weeks worth of stuff actually. I'm sorry I missed last weeks update for you all, I will get in to it.

Let's start with the week of the 19th. On Monday I had a final interview for a job that I really wanted. Tuesday afternoon I was offered the position and the whirlwind began. I had to get things situated with leaving a company I worked with for over eight years. I ended up having my last day there the next day (Wednesday) since I had some time I could use up. My first day at my new job is July 5th.

This will be a huge adjustment for me. My old position was 5am-2pm and I had the whole afternoon to train. I'm not sure what my new hours will be yet, but I have accepted I will be doing more treadmill training during the week.

Okay, now that all of that is over with - here is the training from that week.

I ran twice. I had a failed track workout on Tuesday (I made it two miles) and I ran with the Mojo group on Wednesday. My hip was really bothering me, but I made it the four miles. I decided to take the rest of the week off to rest the hip, AND GO TO DISNEY WORLD!!



After a wonderful vacation, I had to start running again. I'm not going to lie, I was scared. I didn't want to be in pain. I ended up running for the first time on Thursday. I ran five miles with 3.1 of them going towards my Gone For A Run - Run With Me Virtual 5k. It was slow, but that's alright.


Friday Kelsey and I headed to Cleveland for the Saucony Run Your World event. It stormed. Like thunderstorm and dumped rain. I got to try the new Kinvara and we ran three miles around the city. It was fun, despite the weather.



Saturday we did some afternoon hipster stuff in Cleveland, aka went to a farmers market and ate brunch, then headed back to Pittsburgh. On the way back I realized I was officially unemployed! Since I am in limbo until Wednesday, I was having some fun.


Sunday we woke up late and it was already kinda warm, so I decided not to run. I really wanted to just have a fresh start on Monday. Running and I are having some troubles. Because of this I decided to join Kristen's (Concrete Runner) Elite Running Academy. It's going to give me new workouts and daily activities to keep me motivated leading to marathon training. Oh, we also got an inflatable pool!


So that's what I have been up to. Now that I am slowly getting in to a new routine, I hope to start my training back up. I also have a 5k on the Fourth so we will see how that goes!

  3. Congrats on the new job! I left my old job after 10 years for a new position about 2 weeks ago so I understand how nerve wracking that could be. Once you get settled in, I'm sure you'll love it.

    Also - love Cleveland (I feel like those words should never come out of my yinzer mouth, right??). They have an awesome food scene and the city is really easy to walk around.

  4. First, congrats on the new job! Sounds like it came at a great time too, when you could go on vacation right before it starts. I hope your hip problems are behind you and you can continue running pain-free.
