Gone For A Run - Run 5k Wine Later Recap

During marathon training I think it's a lot of fun to focus on races other than your goal race. This is one of reasons why I love the Gone For A Run virtual races that I'm involved in. They help take my mind off of the task at hand and just have fun for a little bit. This time the virtual race was the Run 5k Wine Later. I do love a great glass of wine now and then so to have one to celebrate with this themed race seems like the perfect idea for me.

I decided to do my 5K at the end of my long run last week. So I had already done 5 miles but was another 3.1. I wanted to stay as consistent of my long run pieces possible and really not focus on the time. Like I said I marathon training in speed isn't the necessary evil right now for these miles.

The other factor in this virtual race was that there was also a bike race happening at the same time. I didn't know where exactly the bikers were at but I knew I would be starting and finishing where they would be coming in to finish. Just focus on yourself focus on your miles and get it done.

The first mile was super nice and easy it felt easy my breathing felt good especially because I was already six miles into my run for the day. There were a lot of people out because the weather was beautiful and to be there supporting the bike race.

Mile 1: 10:10

Right after mile one I saw Ashley who I ran the first five miles with. She was finishing up some strides as I came by. Not even a half mile later I saw Toni and Meagan who were finishing up a 23-miler. Right after my turn around I saw Bethany and Sarah also running a 23-miler. Yep, no matter how tired I was feeling, these ladies were out kicking it! I was so happy to see their smiling faces.

Mile 2: 10:04

Okay, almost done! I was getting really hungry and sleepy. I didn't sleep well the night before and it was starting to catch up to me. Plus, this is the end of my first week of marathon training. Adjusting to a new plan always has a learning curve. I made sure I stayed as far to the side as possible, in case bike riders were finishing their race. I was so close to my wine!

Mile 3: 9:32

I ran the last .1 to my car which required crossing the street so I got slowed down a little bit, but I finished!!

Total Time: 30:50

I'm very happy with how all of this went. I stuck to my long run plan. Heck, I even negative split the last three miles of my long run. I earned my glass of wine for sure!
