Five Things Friday - 10.27

Hello again from Disney World! Today is the last day of our trip so I am living it up! Even though I'm on vacation, I have kept my training a focus in my mind. This leads right in to this weeks Five Things Friday. I am linking up with Running On Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for this weeks topic.

This week I want to talk about my November goals. We are getting closer to race day and I feel like I am making progress, but need to keep myself a little more accountable. That's where you all come in to play. If I put it out there on the internet, I have to keep with it!

1. PR the 10-miler - I have only ever done one 10-miler. It was on about two hours notice and it was FREEZING! You can catch that recap here. My time is 1:38 and I am pretty positive I can break that. Luckily, this race is early in the month so I can get it out of the way and move along.

2. Keep a social life - Marathon training is exhausting. Especially as the mileage builds up. I usually become a shut in around this point of training, but I don't want that to happen this time. I have things planned this month and I want to keep all of those plans. Not use my usual, "I can't I'm marathon training" excuse.

3. Work on long run pace - I have been doing a really good job of pacing this training cycle, but I need to keep it going. Keep my slow days slow and my quick days quick.

4. Listen to my body - I have been doing a really great job with keeping my body in check so far. I know when I need to pay a little more attention to different areas. As the mileage builds, I need to remember this.

5. Embrace the treadmill - The daylight is going away. I knew this day would come and I would have to move some of my workouts indoors. It's time to become best friends with the treadmill again. I will try to do as many workouts as I can outside, but I won't use darkness as an excuse.

I'm going to need you all to keep me accountable this month! We are about half way through training and things are going to start picking up here quickly!

What is something you want to be kept accountable for in November?

  1. I have no doubt that you will PR the 10-miler! Totally agree with you on embracing the treadmill. I don't mind running outside in the winter, but when it gets below 10 degrees, I hit the treadmill.

    1. Yeah, after sucking it up most of the beginning of the year - I’m really just worried about daylight.

  2. Yes, so hard not to just work, marathon training, and rest when you have the chance between both of those - I have to force myself to try and still be social during training too.

    1. I’ve really enjoyed my social life this past month. I would really hate for it to go away!

  3. You have great goals for November! I hate to think of it, but you're right...treadmill season is almost here! I love the idea of committing to keeping a social life while marathon training. Balance is key!

  4. I am a wimp when it comes to cold and running in the dark. I actually do not mind running on the treadmill but my problem is running consistently on it.

  5. I also need to make sure I have a social life when I am marathon training. I always use "I am training for a marathon" as an excuse. Boo.

    1. Yes! It’s not a sickness. We choose to do it! I think it’s best for my mental aspect of training.
