Recapping 2017 and My 2018 Goals

I don't know about all of you, but 2017 was a strange year for me. While I had a great beginning and end of the year - the middle did not go as planned. It is always fun to look back and see how things went, it is even better to see how the next year can go!

So, I had five goals for 2017. Here is how they are and how they went!

1. Run 1,000 Miles - I accomplished this back in November. As of Christmas Day I have ran 1,125 miles. I love having a yearly mileage goal. Training for two marathons in a year will bring up that mileage for sure.

2. Sub 1:50 Half Marathon - I got so close to this! I ran a 1:50:05 at the Towpath Half Marathon in April. I am still counting this as a win. After my MAJOR FAIL at Princess, this race was an amazing comeback and I still can't believe it happened.

3. Finish the Pittsburgh Marathon - Not only did I finish the Pittsburgh Marathon, I was very close to a marathon PR! I had a really great experience at this race and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to run it again. It had been a year and a half since I had ran a marathon, still crazy to me that I did it.

4. Attempt a 5k PR - This did not happen. After my eye issue and health issues that came from it, I didn't exactly have the summer I expected. It took a really long time for me to lose the weight I put on (I'm finally back to pre-issue weight!) and I started from nothing in July. I dropped three minutes from my 5k time from July to September. which is an accomplishment in itself.

5. Complete a Triathlon - This did not happen. Kind of hard to try to swim with an eye issue. It's alright. One day I will. I did get a little more comfortable on my bike, which is huge for me. I want to continue with this.

2017 was a really great year, but 2018 will be building off of that. Here are my 2018 goals!

1. Marathon PR - Since this is a week in to 2018, I hope to knock my first goal off quickly! This will be the last marathon I race and I want to give it all I've got. My body is not holding up well with marathons and I want to be able to keep running for awhile.

2. Sub 1:50 Half Marathon - I'm going after it again. I want to give a sub 1:50 half marathon another attempt in the fall. I really want to do well at the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in May and build on that.

3. 1,111 miles - I like fun numbers and this seems totally achievable. There will be no marathons in there, but hopefully not six weeks off in the summer like this year.

4. Continue with Strength Training - I have really been enjoying barre class, but I'm not sure if my finances will allow me to continue (I'm trying to be done with my student loans soon). I have learned a lot from my classes and I should be able to continue them at home. I'm getting stronger and I know if it helping my hips.

5. Stay Connected in the Community - I really love this running community. I have made so many amazing friends in the past year and I want it to continue! I want to be someone that people can approach and be comfortable with. That is a huge goal of mine for 2018.

So that is it friends. It has been one crazy year for sure. I can't wait to continue the fun in 2018!

What is a big goal you have for 2018?
