No Spend February

As many of you know, I pride myself on being a very cheap person. There is no shame in my game. A few of my friends were talking about doing a No Spend February and I was instantly intrigued!

So what is a No Spend Month?

Pretty much it is exactly how it sounds. For a period of time try to cut spending out. Some people do it for specific things, like working on budgets and finding where things can be cut out. To be honest, there are so many different approaches to this, which is why I really like the idea.

Since I love using this blog for accountability, I wanted to share my approach for this No Spend February. I am going to check in with you all each Thursday in February with how my saving is going and if I am hitting my goals.

Here is what I hope to accomplish in this No Spend February.

1. No going out for lunch or dinner - This will force us to focus on grocery shopping and spending our grocery budget wisely.

2. No online shopping - I am usually a really good shopper and buy only things I need. Well, nothing will be purchased in February.

3. No unnecessary spending - I will not be signing up for races. I am signed up for what I need to at this point. I will avoid the impulse bins at Target and not stop at Panara for a bagel after a long run.

This doesn't mean I can't have fun! As a group we have all started to think of fun ideas that doesn't require spending money. I will be sharing some of these ideas with you guys through the month.

I am really excited to do this and see how much I can save in the process! If you are interested in joining in, I highly recommend it! Make some goals and try to stick to them. Come back every week and we can keep each other accountable!

  1. Indulge in some homemade Bullet Coffee instead of a latte! I'm interested to see how this goes for you. I recently started using cash instead of my bank card all the time. It's painful handing over cash!

    1. I never carry cash. If I do I spend it. I think it’s more about will power.

    January went so well that I decided to keep going (only running shoes & running clothing if really needed).

    1. Good for you! I know in a few months I’ll need new shoes but I’m good for now which is why I’m trying now!

  4. I did a no-spend-on-clothing month in January and was successful! I already use to keep sale/store emails out of my inbox, but I just deleted things and didn't even look. I'm going to keep it up in February and make a plan for specific items I will eventually need to purchase.
