Pittsburgh Half Marathon Training - Week One

Well, it is finally here. It is time to start moving forward and getting ready for my next big race. I have had a really hard time coming back from the marathon. I have been running a little here and there, but nothing consistent. While this week was a little low, it was still a step in the right direction.

Monday I did some yoga to start the week off right. I have been dealing with some sinus pressure from this stupid weather pattern. The yoga helped so much along with rolling.

Tuesday I jumped on the treadmill for three miles. I started at a 9:40 pace and ended at an 8:40 pace. It was amazing. It was a perfect starting point for me. It was nice to sweat and feel in control.

Wednesday we got snow. My work let us leave early and I decided to use the time to attempt to shovel the driveway. I also finally was feeling better from the sinus pressure. I didn't run, but I did roll.

Thursday was a really rough day work wise for me. I was there well past my shift and had a lot of really draining things to take care of. Plus, hubs was traveling that evening. He left me a bottle of wine and told me to enjoy. I really did. I realized after the marathon that I need to relax a little more. I can drive myself crazy, I have driven myself crazy. No matter what, I am human. I need to remind myself that things happen and I need to just enjoy the smaller things.

Friday we hosted an Opening Ceremonies party. Guys, it was a blast! So many great friends just laughing and enjoying company. It was something I really needed. I didn't take a single picture!

Saturday I met Maddie and we did a long run together. The city was so sloppy but we really had a great time together. I ended up running 10.5 miles and I couldn't believe it. I know I can run these distances, but it feels like it has been so long. I'm so glad to know my fitness is still at a good level and I am enjoying running again!

Sunday I met Carrie for barre class and then came home to watch the Olympics. Dangle and I love the Olympics and I want to watch as much of it as I can. Plus it was rainy and foggy and I was not all about running in that.

Weekly Total: 13.5 miles
February Total: 21.6 miles
2018 Total: 72.8 miles

I am happy with this start. I have a half marathon in a month and I'm focusing on little milestones the next few weeks to keep my focus going in to May. It seems so far away at this point, but it really isn't!

Speaking of milestones, my Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation fundraiser has hit the $1000 mark!! Carrie and I cannot believe it and are truly humbled by all of the support!

Remember, you have until March 31 to save $10 on the Pittsburgh Marathon Full/Half/Relay by using promo code RUBELDSGPM18. I hope to see you all there!

How did your week go? Did you get snow?

  2. Great job this week! I'm feeling you with the whole balance thing. I've been struggling with challenging work days and training. Treating yourself from time to time totally does the trick to help you stay sane.

So much fun Friday!! We should have regular game nights
